Objectives


  1. (1) To establish a self sustaining institute rooted in participatory development dedicated to the quality learning and development with and for young people so as to help adolescents and young people realize their rights and rightful place at the centre of development in the communities and society as a whole.
  2. (2) To establish an institute which shall have constituent centres which include the Learning and Training Centre and Secondary School in order to realize the objects of the company.
  3. (3) To involve adolescents and young people in all activities and to look critically at all aspects of development from the perspective of adolescents and young people.
  4. (4) To promote learning of adolescents and young people through the provision of standardized, graded, quality courses related to adolescent and youth development and participatory development as a whole
  5. (5) To promote learning of organizations working with young people to strengthen their youth focus in theory and practice and develop strong participatory methodologies of programming and working with young people, with a particular emphasis on developing functioning youth-adult partnerships.
  6. (6) To promote learning critical thinking and innovation of all stakeholders in youth development, including development actors, academics, activists and young people themselves through various ways such as the applications of a youth lens to all issues, research, workshops and consultations and development of materials for media and training, with a strong emphasis on gender and the most marginalized.
  7. (7) To bring together everyone committed to youth focused development through and, in particular to bring together diverse groups including but not limited to the generations (youth and adults, adolescents and older youth); the local, national and global actors for instance young people and development actors at community, national, East Africa, pan African and global levels, the government and non-governmental actors as well as academics and activists at all levels.
  8. (7) To establish a ‘mother’ youth centres as a key part of the institute to be run by youth of the local community but with strong networking links to community based youth centres in all neighbouring districts.
  9. (8) To provide youth centred training in such courses as sexual and reproductive health and HIV and AIDS, participatory development with strong human rights based approach, capacity development of youth organizations including leadership, research and analysis, advocacy, writing skills such as preparation of proposals and reports, communication with particular emphasis on communication for social change, facilitation and presentation skills, entrepreneurship and livelihoods including development of livelihood programmes and ensuring the participation of the most vulnerable groups in livelihoods; as well as participatory action research including Appreciative Inquiry, theatre for development, and other course depending on changing demand.
  10. (8) To train adults, youth serving organizations and offices in programming and working with young people
  11. (9) To training adolescents and young persons in literacy and other academic development courses including intensive language training in international languages
  12. (10) To provide recreational activities for adolescents and youth as may be decided upon by club members
  13. (11) To provide counseling and support to adolescents’ self awareness and personal development
  14. (12) To work with young people and media actors to produce relevant written materials including children’s magazine and other youth focused written materials
  15. (13) To train and work with young people and local artists to produce their own materials and provide studio services for them
